Job Summary: The Senior Evening Assignment Manager is a key newsroom leader responsible for overseeing editorial operations during late-day and evening hours. This senior-level role ensures seamless coordination across platforms and drives high-impact news coverage in support of live primetime programming. The ideal candidate brings seasoned editorial judgment, proven newsroom leadership, and the ability to guide complex, fast-moving coverage during the network’s most visible hours. Key Responsibilities: Serve as the senior editorial authority during evening hours, leading the assignment desk with a strategic focus on primetime programming and special coverage. Oversee all aspects of newsgathering, field deployment, and content prioritization in coordination with newsroom and platform leadership. Drive real-time editorial decision-making during high-stakes breaking news, working in partnership with senior producers, digital editors, and field teams. Ensure consistent communication across shows, platforms, and bureaus to align coverage strategies and uphold editorial standards. Monitor news wires, social platforms, and internal feeds to identify and elevate emerging stories with national or strategic relevance. Collaborate with show teams to anticipate coverage needs, provide editorial guidance, and contribute to planning for overnight and next-day content. Serve as a key liaison to the digital team, acting as an additional evening Editor to ensure consistent tone, speed, and accuracy across platforms. Mentor and develop junior assignment editors and field coordinators, fostering a high-performance, collaborative newsroom culture.
