Senior Assignment Manager, MSNBC Dayside Newsgathering

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced Senior Manager to lead and coordinate the daily operations of our Washington, DC newsroom. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and seasoned newsroom leader with a deep understanding of national politics, policy reporting, and the fast-paced nature of breaking news. This role requires a collaborative manager who can drive editorial excellence, maintain high journalistic standards, and manage a diverse team of reporters, journalists, assignment editors, and embeds. Responsibilities Oversee daily editorial planning and news coverage related to Congress, the White House, federal agencies, and national political developments. Lead a team of journalists, ensuring timely, accurate, and impactful reporting. Collaborate with senior editorial leadership to define and execute coverage priorities and long-term projects. Serve as a key liaison between reporters, journalists, editors, embeds, and other departments. Supervise newsroom operations, including staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation. Provide editorial guidance and mentorship to reporters and editors to strengthen story development and reporting rigor. Monitor breaking news and guide real-time editorial decisions. Ensure compliance with ethical journalism standards and organizational guidelines.
