The Weekend Director of Domestic Newsgathering is responsible for overseeing all aspects of 24/7 newsgathering operations during weekends. This senior editorial role manages breaking news response, coordinates field teams, collaborates with weekend shows, and ensures cohesive, high-impact coverage across platforms. The Weekend Director leads the editorial direction of weekend coverage, acting as the key decision-maker during off-peak executive hours. Responsibilities & Duties Lead and manage all domestic newsgathering operations during weekend hours, ensuring editorial excellence and accuracy. Serve as the senior editorial authority during weekends, making critical decisions on story selection, deployment, and coverage strategy. Direct breaking news coverage in real-time, coordinating closely with assignment desks, field teams, and bureaus. Collaborate with weekend programming director and show teams, digital platforms, and senior producers to align content and ensure consistency across all platforms. Monitor developments across news wires, internal reports, and social media to identify and escalate key stories. Oversee the deployment of field teams and technical resources for field coverage, often on short notice.
